I feel that fundraising is an excellent way to give back to our community and local organizations.  I always try to donate gift certificates or gift baskets to local groups for various fundraising events.

For me fundraising isn’t only about donating money to great causes and organizations that need it but it is about raising awareness, learning and teaching people about things that affect our lives that they wouldn’t otherwise know about.

April is Autism Awareness Month.  Raising awareness about Autism is a cause that is very dear to me because my 8 year old son was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 4.

Live Pure Products & Spa has teamed up once again with Bobby-Jo’s Pins n’ Needles for our 3rd Annual Community Autism Awareness Fundraiser!

We have chosen the Casey foundation as our benefactor again this year.  The Casey foundation is a volunteer run charity.  The funds donated stay in Saskatchewan helping Saskatchewan families.  Please lean more about the Casey Foundation for Autism Support Inc. at www.thecaseyfoundation.org

This year’s lineup of great locally handmade products that we have available are: Live Pure's 100% natural lip balms, Bobby-jo’s Pins n’ Needles hand crafted Key chains, lanyards, and new this year Autism = Awesomism T-shirts and window decals.  30% of all net profits will be donated to The Casey Foundation. You may view and purchase all of the items for sale for this fundraiser @ http://www.livepureproducts.com/collections/autism-awareness-items or by visiting the spa, we have all of the items for sale and on display there as well.

We are looking forward to another successful  fundraiser again this year!  As our fundraiser expands to more communities each year we are able to see the awareness spreading too!

Thank you to Bobby-Jo for all of your great work with this fundraiser and to all of the schools and communities involved.

You can follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/CommunityAutismAwarenessFundraiser  Watch for regular informational posts to learn more about Autism over the month of April, and keep up to date on the events we host throughout the month and on the status of our fundraiser.

My Story

My Story

My whole life I have been interested in beauty and all things girly.  I spent hours doing my nails, hair and makeup every day. I can remember forever making all sorts of concoctions as a little girl from dandelion perfume to facial masks and more.

It is safe to say I always knew I would become a professional in the beauty industry.

In 1999 I met an amazing lady named Tamara who I still look up to in the beauty industry and often call to this day for advice.  Through Tamara I started my journey into the beauty world.  I started working at Perimeters Salon & Esthetics as a Salon Coordinator. Before my employment there I always thought about taking my cosmetology course.  It didn’t take me long working in that great salon that my calling was not hair styling, although I do love hair, the world of Esthetics was shown to me.

Waxing, manicures, facials, pedicures, nails all fascinated me, in 2001 I started my Esthetics and Nail course at Avant- Garde College in Regina.  I had a pretty good understanding of the profession from my experience working at Perimeters and did exceptionally well in School.

2 months after starting the course I had the opportunity to compete within the school for an opportunity to go on to compete in the upcoming Skills Canada Competition.  I was up against girls who had been in school for 2, 4 & 6 months longer than I had as the competition was open to everyone in the school and the course started every 2 months so there were all levels of trainees able to compete.  I thought hey I want to try, just to see how I do and where I am at with my skill level.  When they announced the winners they announced the 3rd place then the 2nd place and I’ll never forget when they said and the 1st place goes to Lori Anderson (My Maiden name)  One teacher laughed and said “ you can wipe the look of shock off of your face and come and accept your certificate!”  I never dreamed that I would win I just wanted to see how I would compare to others in my school.

The provincial Skills Canada Competition was to be held in 2 months in Saskatoon so I trained hard and fundraised and practiced, practiced, practiced all the while working evenings and weekends at the spa and still studying full time at the college to get my certification.

I won 1st place in Saskatchewan for Esthetics which entitled me to go on and compete nationally in Vancouver, 2 months later to represent my home province.  I won gold at the National Skills Canada Esthetics Competition in 2002.

Winning the Skills Canada competition made me realize 2 things, I am a perfectionist and I had found my true passion in life.

I graduated in the top of my class and continued on to work at the salon to build my clientele and grow my experience and love in the beauty industry.  It was an Aveda Salon and Aveda has a wonderful product line as well as excellent training and education, they have a strong emphasis on clients and giving them exceptional service.  It was a great experience that I will be forever grateful for.

In 2004 I was 25 years old and needed to do some soul searching.  I was bitten by the travel bug.  I traveled to many places with in Canada, US, the Dominican, then to Asia spending over a year in South Korea, and some time in Thailand and Cambodia as well.

2006 I was homesick and decided to come back to Canada.  I chose to move to Northern BC where my sister was living and work for a while to save money and then travel again. Not sure if Esthetics was where I was going to make money, I started working at an OSB Mill in Fort St. John to try something different.  I met my husband in FSJ, we lived there for 6 years together and started our family.  I worked shift work at the mill and did nails in our basement on my days off.

My heart was still meant for the beauty industry, after the birth of our 1st son I became really interested in making my own skin care products.  I often dreamed of opening up my own skincare business and loved the idea of owning a franchise of skin care and bath products.  When I actually looked into getting started in a franchise I was disappointed by how much it costs to start a business like that.  I thought to myself well these guys all started somewhere, I too can start my own product manufacturing business.  Ok back to the drawing board how do I go about learning how to make my own products.  I found a company who offered a course and decided to take the plunge.

I immediately fell in love with making lotions, scrubs, lip balms and more!  Eek more beauty love!  I began making products, had lots of trial and error and some success too!  I tested my products out on all of my friends and family and basically anyone else that would let me, giving skin care and bath products as every gift I could and Live Pure was born.  It started as Live Pure Natural Skin Care Products and More (Lengthy I know).

Up until I registered Live Pure Natural Skin Care Products and More I was doing nails under  my personal name but decided I should register a professional business name too, so I became Lori Esthetics and Nail Design Studio ( I know I know lengthy – I did not give any consideration to clients having to write cheques out lol)

After our 2nd son was born I decided that I would no longer work at the OSB Mill as my passion was in the beauty world and my new found love of making products!

During that time frame we decided that we would move our family to Saskatchewan, for my husband to pursue his career in potash mining.  We decided that Langenburg was where our family was meant to settle. This was a big change for my husband who was born and raised in Northern Alberta and lived in the north up until we moved.  I grew up on a farm in south east Saskatchewan so for me this move meant coming home, being close to my family and re-establishing a strong connection to my roots.

I knew I would be doing Esthetics full time again and knew that my former employer and mentor ‘s mom owned a salon in a nearby town so I went to see her and started doing reception for her.  I intended to eventually start doing Esthetics within her salon which was being renovated at that time.  Fate had something else in the works and I was pulled by the importance of establishing our roots and making Langenburg our hometown.  After meeting an amazing Esthetician in Langenburg who had recently been in an accident and was unable to work I decided that I would rent a space in her little spa and help accommodate her clients as well as start to build my own clientele.

Settling in Langenburg is when I stared to manufacture my products for use within my spa.  I worked at this location for a year, when she decided to move and I decided to move my business into another location.

I rented a space within Prairie Rose Wellness where I got to know a great lady by the name of Sandra (Sammy) we became great friends and I can safely say I look up to her as a mentor as well.  I had a cute & cozy location.  When I found out I was pregnant with our 3rd baby I hired an easy going loyal Esthetician Hannah to help me with my clients while I was taking time with my new baby.    It was the perfect arrangement and location.  I returned back to work after only 2 months off, but with Hannah’s help I was able to work part time until my sweet baby was 1.

Hannah and I worked around each other’s schedules and sometimes worked together in our small space, but we soon realized we needed to expand.  In June 2015 I found my perfect location on Main Street in Langenburg.  My husband and I purchased the new location and spent the next several months working our butts off to renovate the building and bring my vision to life!  I decided it was a good time to combine my 2 businesses into 1 and on November 2nd 2015 we opened Live Pure Products & Spa!

Live Pure Products & Spa currently employs myself, Hannah who has been with me for almost 3 years, Candace who started when we opened in November and Raje our Salon Coordinator who is Currently taking her Nail Technician Certification Training and hopes to pursue more training in the field of Esthetics.  We offer a full range of spa services as well as a complete line of skin care and bath products in the spa we retail mineral makeup as well as hair care products.

If you haven't had a chance please stop in and visit us, have a look around and let us know what you think.

I really do believe that when you want something bad enough you will do whatever it takes to make it happen no matter what obstacles life hands you. Dreams do come true, I honestly feel that I am living mine.  I love what I do and am ecstatic every day to be able to work with amazing women, my coworkers and my clients and to be able to share what I love with the world.

Cuticle oil

Cuticle oil

I want to go back to the basics of nail care, and although it may be basic knowledge for me I realize it is very valuable and essential information for regular care and maintenance of your nail and cuticle health. It is second nature to me but I often fail to communicate the importance of these products to my clients.  Cuticle oil is an important component in all hand and foot treatments at our spa and should also be incorporated into your daily at home maintenance care routine too.

This is why

Cuticle oil is an essential product in maintaining your nail and cuticle health.  It is a valuable component used by professional Estheticians and Nail Technicians in manicures, pedicures and nail enhancements because it works.

How it works...

It works by lubricating and penetrating into the layers of nail and cuticle area to deep condition, soften and seal in moisture promoting healthy nail growth.  The conditioning effect of the oils allows for greater flexibility and helps to prevent brittle and dry nails.

Regular use of cuticle oil keeps your cuticles moisturized, helps to prevent hangnails.  Keep your cuticle oil handy and apply it daily or as often as needed. This is a vital habit to incorporate into your routine weather you are looking to maintain your natural nails, a manicure or pedicure or wanting to help preserve the life span of your nail enhancements.

Regular use of cuticle oil will help to minimize lifting on your nail enhancements and promote healthy nail growth as well.

Taking a few minutes in your day to massage cuticle oil into your nail and cuticle area helps to protect your natural nails making them stronger and more flexible.  Making this a habit in your daily routine will help to prevent chipping of your nail polish or UV polish manicure and help to extend the life of your manicures. It keeps your nails and cuticle area soft and moisturized so there will be less reason to pick at your cuticles and less hangnails.

What it is...

Live Pure Cuticle oil is an all natural product containing Jojoba oil, coconut oil, sweet almond oil, vitamin E, a blend of essential oils and Rosemary extract.

Who should use Cuticle oil?

Cuticle oil is for everyone!  Anyone who works with paper, fabric, cardboard, outside or who suffers from dry skin and cuticles or brittle, peeling or cracking nails.  You may already be using lotion but cuticle oil is an excellent addition to your regime for added moisture and protection. If you already have healthy nails and cuticles it is an excellent product to help maintain them.

How to use it...

Apply cuticle oil with dropper or application brush to your nail and cuticle area and massage in circular motions until oil is absorbed.  It can be used on natural nails, nail polish, Gel Polish and Nail Enhancements.

Cuticle oil is an excellent product, if you don’t have any you need to buy some today and use it regularly, you can never use too much of it so get yours now and use it a lot.  I promise you will not be disappointed!
